The oven self-clean cycle reaches 900°F — which routinely destroys the thermal fuse, oven sensor, and occasionally the control board. A&Y advises never running self-clean on ovens over 10 years old. The 90-second igniter test: a healthy oven igniter glows bright orange within 90 seconds of calling for heat. Longer than 90 seconds means the igniter is weak and must be replaced.
